Disney Dream

I think my favorite family vacation has to be the 3-night cruise on the Disney Dream.  I love everything Disney, but this cruise was truly magical for my family.

In 2012, we decided that we wanted to shift our families focus from buying things for our kids into taking annual family vacations. We were cleaning our garage and realized that the majority of the boxes contained barley touched clothes and toys; most of which were acquired during Christmas.

For Christmas, we decided to start a new tradition.  We would allow the kids to get 1-2 gifts that they wanted, and then we would announce our family vacation.

The very first announcement was our Disney Cruise Family Vacation.

Our Vacation on the Disney Dream

Disney Dream is the third ship in the Disney Cruise Line.

Disney has a way of making you feel the magic from the moment you enter the port.  While there is a wait to enter the ship, you should sign-up for the kids club and take advantage of all of the great spots to take family photos.

As you board the ship you are announced like the royal family that you are. This was so cool!

The ship is HUGE!!! There is plenty to do onboard.

Didn’t bring the kids? No worries! There were many childless couples on board.  I’m still trying to figure out how to pull one off without guilt attached.

Food– I was four months pregnant.  Believe me I ate everything that I could.  All of it was great! My favorite dish was the twice baked potato. I think that I ordered every night.

Room Service also delivers food to the stateroom for FREE!!! We closed each night with the cheese tray each night.

Bahamas – The first port- We ventured to the straw market. We felt extremely safe the entire time.  We spent about an 1 hour or so walking around then headed back to the ship for a scavenger hunt.

Catasway Cay- Final port-  This was the highlight of our trip. It was so much to do. The island was immaculate. The kids wanted to stay!

Stateroom- We stayed in the Family Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom. We had two large portholes.  There was more than enough room four our family of four.

Peek into our Disney Dream Memory

I loved it! It is my dream to go back so I can slide on the AquaDuck.  I was pregnant the last time, and couldn’t.  I was sad, but it just gave me a reason to go back.

I love your philosophy of vacations together instead of a bunch of gifts. You’re right…the memories last forever. It must have been really exciting for your family to hear their name announced as you boarded the ship!

Love this tradition to pivot from things to memories! Have you done did every year?

Oh! And love that you used a video to show your photos…I know I tend to over click when vacationing so this is a great way to share them!

What a wonderful trip for your family! Looks like you had an amazing time! I totally agree about having less and doing more. It’s how we try to live too 🙂 We’ve done cruises with our kids in the past, and we all loved it! We’ve never done a Disney cruise before, but I know my kids would love it!

OMG! I am so in agreeance with you on making memories instead of buying toys. I’ve always wanted to go on the DISNEY Cruise with kiddos so this is right up our alley. Thanks for sharing

My husband and I feel the same way. We spend loads of money on toys, clothes and junk; within a few months the children can’t find it, can’t fit it or it’s trash. We decided to no longer purchase unnecessary toys and clothes; save and take them away once or twice a year. Our first trip was last month to Mexico; they all had a blast. I figured kids won’t remember what you brought for them; they’ll remember the time you spent with them!! And that’s something to cherish forever!! Great post keep it up!!

I love your blog idea of memories instead of things. Our family decided to do the same thing. Every Christmas we go somewhere instead of buying things. The kids LOVE it! Plus we found when we reminisce the kids remember what we did but they don’t remember anything they got for their birthday. This is awesome that you are starting now while your kids are young.

Looks like a fun time! Hubby and I have never been on a cruise. We’ll have to take one and then treat our granddaughter’s to a trip. Sounds like fun!

It looked like you guys had a blast. I am I right in that this island only allows access to Disney cruises?

I’m a huge Disney fan and have spent about 10 days a year at the parks. I’ve never had the pleasure of going on one of their cruises yet. Thanks for helping me to understand what to expect!
