Surviving Hospital Bed Rest: The Backstory pt 1

6 weeks! I stayed in the hospital for 6 weeks.  Most of my time laying flat on my back.  How did I survive?  Surviving hospital bed rest: The back story….

Hospital Bed rest

In January 2013, my husband and I discussed having more children.  We were already parents to two beautiful kids.  We both decided that we wanted one more to complete our family.  I am a teacher. I wanted to wait and to begin trying between August-October so the delivery wouldn’t interfere with work.  This would mean that I would have the entire summer to bond with the baby.  I scheduled a family planning appointment with my OB/GYN.  Everything looked great!   The doctor prescribed birth control pills to start taking that Sunday.  I was in the mind-set of getting my body ready for pregnancy.  I was eating healthy, and making sure I exercised to lose that earlier baby fat from 2005 and 2010. I didn’t want to carry three babies.  I was working hard!

“Are you sure you’re exercising?” my husband asked me one day as I was changing clothes.  I was so offended!  In reality, I was already a little depressed because I wasn’t seeing results.  He then asked me, “Are you sure you aren’t pregnant?” Pregnant? I can’t be pregnant.  I saw my OB/GYN the month before.  The test was negative.  I better not be pregnant!  We had a trip scheduled for Disney World and the Disney Dream that April.  I needed wanted to ride the AquaDuck.

I reluctantly took a test.  POSITIVE!  I immediately called my doctor.  I had taken birth control pills the entire time.  The doctor confirmed the results.  She told me not to worry.  The baby was fine. How did this happen?  Other than the obvious, I was already pregnant at my first appointment.  It was too early to detect with the urine test.

I was kind-of disappointed that I was pregnant.  Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to have another baby.  I wasn’t ready yet. I had made the perfect plan.  All of my plans were unraveling, but I didn’t know to what extent…..
